Writing to Shore Leave Amsterdam from a room on shore
Everything is arranged in writing, whatever the hour. A written booking leaves the address, the date and the length sitting in a thread both of you can read again, which matters when the evening has a departure behind it.
Getting the details right is the first reason for writing, and privacy only the second. A spoken booking rests on two tired people hearing each other correctly at the end of a travel day. A written one does not, and a room number is a poor thing to leave to two sets of tired ears.
A first message is easy to answer when it carries six things:
- Where the two of you are, which a district and a street cover, with the room number once you have it.
- The date and the hour, in Amsterdam time rather than in the time your phone is still keeping.
- How long the two of you want it: an hour, ninety minutes, two hours, three, or the block.
- Whether one therapist works between the two of you, or each of you has her own.
- A name from the profiles if one has already settled it, or a line about the evening if it has not.
- The hour you have to be somewhere the next morning, which is what the length is measured against.
The reply lands in the same thread, carrying a name, the figure and the window she will arrive inside. Nothing is asked of either of you before it: no form, no account, no card details typed into a page, and no deposit until an evening has actually been agreed.
Writing on a fly-in day
Give the hour twice where there is any doubt, once in Amsterdam time and once in the time you are still on, and it cannot be misread. If the room for that night is at a Schiphol airport hotel, say so at the start, because those are arranged rather than quoted and the reply takes a different shape while her journey is agreed.
If the message is a question rather than a booking, ask it. The same thread does both, and a question answered in the afternoon is worth more than a guess acted on at ten in the evening.
What the thread cannot do
It cannot tell you what a particular building permits its guests, cannot hold or change a room for you, cannot arrange anything at the terminal or on board, and will not contact anybody on your behalf. Therapists, formats, timing, length and payment are all answered there, and answered properly. The questions page often gets there before the message does, and the booking page sets out the sequence once it has been sent.
Anything that needs a record rather than a conversation, a complaint, a question about what is held about you, or a request under the privacy pages, goes in writing to [email protected].
